「山本君ってチベット人のサブカルチャー研究してるんでしょ」。これは、私がインドのダラムサラでフィールドワークしている際、幾度となく聞かされた言葉である。そんな時、私は苦笑いしながら「サブカルチャーじゃなくて音楽に関わる人の研究です」と言い返していたが、内心「どうしたもんかな」と思ったものである。もちろん、この質問をした人に対して私は特に怒っていない。
また、インドやネパールに住むチベット人に自分の研究について語ると、その反応として「音楽なんか研究してるの？意味ないよ。なんで仏教じゃないの？」と繰り返し聞かれたものである。もちろん、こう返答したチベット人たちに対して私は特に怒っていない（しつこい）。いずれにせよ、ひとつわかることは、日本人にとってもチベット人にとってもチベットの音楽や芸能を研究するということは何かズレていることをしているような印象を与える、ということだ。

第13回国際チベット学会参加記（岩尾一史）
2013年7月、ウランバートルで開催された第13回国際チベット学会（International Association for Tibetan Studies）に参加して来ました。通称IATSです。私は「アイエイティーエス」と呼んでいたのですが、どうやら「イアッツ」と呼ぶ人の方が多いようです！
今回は7月21日から27日、一週間の日程でした。この学会は回を重ねるごとに参加者が増えており、今回はついに600人を超えました。こうなると、大きなお祭りのようです。主催側の負担は相当なものでしょう。

第4回若手チベット学者国際会議（International Seminar of Young Tibetologists）（Leipzig, 2015年9月7日〜12日開催予定）が参加者を募集中です（ココ）。
参加資格はチベット学を専攻し若手であること。若手とは一応「博士号取得から6年以内、あるいは研究職についてから6年以内」と定義されています（ココのAm I Young項参照）。ただし例外も十分に認められます（主催者と応相談）。
